RF430FRL152HEVM: RF430FRL152HEVM sensor readings are maxed

Part Number: RF430FRL152HEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7970A, MSP-FET, RF430FRL152H, DLP-7970ABP, MSP-EXP430G2ET

Tool/software:

Hi,

I have 2 questions. I am new to RF430FRL152HEVM board, I used TRF7970A EVM and RF430FRL152HEVM GUI to interface the temperature and light intensity readings of the board but all of the sensor readings are $FFFF, I tried the sensor and device configurations and also used the SensorHub pack to try a different version but still all data come as $FFFF.

Also I want to program the board to test MSP430 features, is using MSP-FET or a similar MSP430 compatible programmer only way to program the RF430FRL152HEVM.

I appreciate any help or advice.

  • Hi,

This app note will be very helpful to answer many of your questions, be it the one you currently ask or questions you may have in the future. Frequently asked questions for RF430FRL15xH devices (Rev. C)

    I used TRF7970A EVM

First of all, TRF7970AEVM is no longer available. Not sure how you acquire this EVM. For evaluation of RF430FRL152H, the recommended reader is the DLP-7970ABP BoosterPack plug-in module and MSP-EXP430G2ET LaunchPad development kit. Refer to the FAQ.

but all of the sensor readings are $FFFF, I tried the sensor and device configurations and also used the SensorHub pack to try a different version but still all data come as $FFFF.

As explained above, please use the DLP-7970ABP BoosterPack plug-in module and MSP-EXP430G2ET LaunchPad development kit as the NFC reader to evaluate the RF430FRL152H.

Also I want to program the board to test MSP430 features, is using MSP-FET or a similar MSP430 compatible programmer only way to program the RF430FRL152HEVM.

Yes, you need the MSP-FET to program/debug RF430FRL152HEVM. Refer to RF430FRL152HEVM user' guide

  • Hi, thank you for the reply. I understand the other parts but would my TRF work as NFC reader and writer? I got it a long time ago but just needed to use it now

  • The TRF7970AEVM is a NFC reader/writer.

Do you have the correct host software running on TRF7970AEVM ?

Do you have the correct host software running on RF430FRL152HEVM?

If you use a smart device such as a smartphone to read the raw data on RF430FRL152HEVM, do you also read all F's?
