CC2520: Antenna Configuration

Part Number: CC2520

Tool/software:

Would you recommend any specific antenna configurations or filtering strategies when integrating the CC2520RHDR into a crowded RF environment, like a smart home hub or industrial IoT setup

  • You can achieve this by closely following the reference design as this consideration has been baked into the schematic and layout design: https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/swru190

The main goal is maintain RSSI and packet error rate above the spec and this is achieved through the steps below:

    1. Filter match circuit which matches the chip to 50 ohms.

    2. Antenna matching circuit which matches 50 ohms to the antenna. Ensure Antenna S11 at 2402 - 2480 MHz is at least 9 dB (higher is better).

    3. Radiated testing and tuning to measure antenna efficiency and gain is sufficient.

    4. Lastly, system-level field testing which just means taking the final product and test it in a typical environment and understanding the RSSI and Packet-Error-Rate (PER)
