CC1111 antenna

Hello,

I would like to use a whip straight antenna with CC1111 device plugged in an USB port, with a frequency of 868MHz. But I did not find any reference design for that, just with chip antenna. Could anyone help me with this design?

Hi Bruno,

Unsure if it Is a wire antenna or chip antenna that you are interested in.

There are no straight wire antenna ref designs but if this is required then just add a wire with a quarter wave length (approx 8.5cm @ 868 MHz) and a pi-network for matching purposes. For chip antenna ref designs, please refer to the antenna ref design overview document DN035 (http://www.ti.com/lit/swra351).

Sorry for the bad explanation above.

I just want to use this dongle http://www.ti.com/tool/cc1111emk868-915, with this kind of antenna http://search.digikey.com/us/en/products/W1910/553-1699-ND/2538448.

It will work if I just change the chip antenna for a SMA connector?

Hi Bruno

To connect to this antenna you are right, al you need is to replace the existing CC1111 chip antenna by a SMA connector.
Between the connector and remaining dongle circuitry I would add the pi network mentioned by Richard above to allow for impedance matching.

So between the antenna connector and CC1111 I will use the same circuit of the CC1101EM described here: http://www.ti.com/tool/cc1101em868-915_refdes

and it would be ok, right?!

Hi,

The ref design (http://www.ti.com/tool/cc1101em868-915_refdes) is terminated with a 50 ohm connection point so basically any 50 ohm 868/915 MHz antenna can be used so your solution would work fine.
