CC1101 with matched BALUN and chip antenna

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101

Hello,

I plan to use the CC1101 chip with the 0896BM15A0001 matched BALUN from Johanson Technology (see DN025) and the 0868AT43A0020 chip antenna from Johanson Technology (see DN016). My question: what should the matching network between the matched BALUN and the chip antenna look like? Is it OK to use the network as shown on page 4 of DN016 (12nH and 1.8nH) or should I use a combination of the network on page 4 of DN016 (12nH and 1.8nH) and page 4 of DN025 (L122 and C123) or maybe even an other network.

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions.

  • Hi,

I have the same plans like the OP. I'd follow the balun chip layout described in DN025  and would like to know how to connect it to the chip antenna feeding point described in DN016.

    Thanks in advance.

  • Hi,

The components L122 & C123 in DN025 are extra filtering which is required to surpress harmonics (see page 10 in DN025). The C124 is a DC block capacitor.

The values of the antenna matching components (page 4 in DN016) which need to be added after the DC blocking capacitor (C124) will be application board specific. For the first assembly of a board use the matching show in DN016. This matching should be checked since the optimum antenna matching will vary dependent on the board layout, antenna positioning and physical surroundings around the antenna.

    Regards,
