Hi,

I would like to implement a radio system based on EN 300 220 using listen before talk (LBT) and adaptive frequency agility (AFA). But the standard states in chapter 9 that “Receiver category 2 or better for all LBT applications shall be used.”

Can anybody give me a hint, where to find information about the achievable category for CC1101? From AN50 -- Using the CC1101 in the European 868MHz SRD band (Rev. A) I know that category 1 cannot be achieved. How about category 2?

Hi Dirk,

First of all for EN 300 220 I believe usually the CC1020 is recommended. This is not class 1, but class 1, as your quote shows, is not necessary in all cases depending on what you are doing.

For social alarms, for example most customers use CC1020, narrowband settings at 869.200 - 869.250 MHz and a lot of social alarm players are using TI RF hardware in a 2-way solution using class 2 (that I would argue is better than a one-way class 1 solution).

I would have a look at REC 70-03E.
