CC-6LowPAN

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101

Hi,

I use the CC-6LowPAN-DK-868 kit from TI, and I need  some informations :

- What is the maximum distance between 2 nodes that can be supported?
- How many nodes and hops supported per gateway/Edge router?
- Does the software/protocol support an Edge router redundancy (2 or more gateway)?

thank you,

  • Hi Youssef,

    - We have measured the distance between two nodes to about 800 meters using two CC430 boards (200 kbps/868 MHz).

    - There are no limits on how many nodes you can connect to one Edge Router. Note however that the software in the kit is limited to 10 nodes. Once you purchase a license you can connect unlimited number of nodes. Note that the real number of nodes that is practical to connect needs to be verified by your,s ince it heavily depends on your RF settings and overall configurations.

    - You can use more than one gateway, but you can only have one gateway per 6LoWPAN network. So the solution is to create several parallel networks. The networks need to have different RF configurations (e.g. AES keys RF settings) in order to control which node that connect to which gateway. Note that you can also have several RF interfaces on one gateway, e.g. one gateway can support one RF interface running at 868 MHz 200 kbps and no AES, and one RF interface can at the same time run at 433 MHz 50 kbps and AES encryption. So there are several ways of extending the 6LoWPAN coverage and usage.

  • Thank you Jonas, it is very useful information.

  • No worries, please let us know if you need any more information!

  • Hi, Jonas. I have some further questions on it.

If we use our own board, only can CC1180DB be used, but CC430 can not be used, is that right ?

If we use CC1180DB nodes with our own host board.  What else do we need apart from Sensinod NanoStack?

What is the maximum distance by using two CC1180DB? Can CC1180DB work with CC1101 RF transeiver?

    Thank you very much!
