SMA antenna connector broken

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2530EM

Sir, I am using CC2530ZDK in which CC2530EM's SMA antenna connector is broken. Is there any means of soldering the connector to the EM board. If so how to do it? please suggest me if there is any alternative solution to make the CC2530EM working...Thanks in advance...

  • To repair, I go for the edge type SMA connectors.  Get one that is right for the thickness of the board, scrape some of the solder mask off where the ground connectors touch on either side of the antenna connection.  Solder the ground down.  For the center, I use a piece of resistor lead to go from the SMA center connection to the remains of the pad for the center connection.  This has worked for me in the past.

    Hope this helps,

    Chris

  • I agree with Chris M.  Load it up with solder and heat it at the hottest setting if necessary to get the remains of the broken one off.  A hot air pencil is helpful but not necessary.

If you have to run 1-2cm of wire to connect the center conductor to an end-launch SMA, I've found 2.4GHz more forgiving that I expected, more than twice as forgiving as 5-6GHz.
