CC2530EM Layout

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2530EM, CC2591, CC2530

Hi all,

Would like to seek advise on the CC2530EM layout, why is the I/O trace is connected from top layer to bottom layer and lastly top layer? Is there any reason for not connecting it directly? Kindly advise. Thanks.

  • You can route the I/O's on the top layer if possible. However, since there are quite a few I/O's, and some of them will have to cross, you will find that you do need to route some of the traces on the second layer.

  • They are connected directly on the CC2530+CC2591 combo design

So there isn't any specific reason for the CC2530EM board to have the  I/O  to be connected from top to bottom and to top again? I do not see any cross happens on the EM board actually. So I was wondering if it is the recommended layout which needs to be followed, be it impedance matching (which not applicable to I/O i believe) or any reason behind.

  • Hi RVG,

I know what you are asking about, and the short answer is no, this is not required. The reason for routing like this was to add some inductance to the traces for EMC/EMI purposes.

    Hi Fredrik,
Are you referring to that the routing cannot be routed directly? Top-Bottom-Top routing is to add inductance for the EMC/EMI purposes. If the traces are elongated at the top layer, will it performs the same?
On the other hand, the CC2530-CC2591 EVM did not route the traces in this manner. Any advise?

    Thanks..

  • As I wrote, the top-bottom-top routing is not necessary.
