CC1111EMK868-915 Can't Flashing Using CC Debugger

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1111EMK868-915, CC2511

Hello Everyone,

I'm trying to flash a firmware image onto my CC1111EMK868-915 using a CC Debugger. I followed the instructions for updating the firmware on the CC debugger and everything updated fine.

The Smart RF Flash Programmer recognizes the CC Debugger properly (firmware ID 05CC, firmware revision 0025). The light on the CC Debugger is red when no device is plugged in.

Once I attempt to plug a CC1111EMK868-915 into the debugger, the light does not change to green, nor does the flashing software recognize the CC1111 device. We have verified the cable is connected properly and the CC1111 is powered via USB. When we attach the CC1111 to the debugger, we notice the dongle's green light on the board turns off.

Any suggestions on how we can get this to work? We have tried with both Windows XP x86 and Windows 7 x86. All drivers are working and both devices are recognized in the device manager. We have tried with two different CC1111 dongles (same revision). I'm at a loss at this point.

  • Did you press the reset button on the debugger after having connected it to the dongle? I assume you've looked at www.ti.com/lit/swru082 (CC1111/CC2511 USB HW User's Guide). The connection should be similar to that in figure 2 on page 6, except that you're using the CC Debugger instead of the SmartRF04EB. Could you show a picture of how everything is connected?

  • For those looking to flash the CCxxxx dongle using a CC debugger within a virtual machine:

    1. Connect the dongle and CC debugger to the host machine and DO NOT install any drivers
    2. Connect the serial cable from the CC debugger to the dongle, press the reset button (the light should go green)
    3. Pass through the USB connection for the CC debugger from the host to the VM
    4. Pass through the USB connection for the dongle from the host to the VM
    5. Continue on as normal

Apparently the order in which you pass through the devices creates significant issues. I hope this helps someone in the future.

Works great in an XP VM using Virtual Box. Thanks for your reply.

  • Hi Garrett Hayes,

Please elaborate on step 4 & 5. I am not able to understand how to pass through the USB connection for CC debugger from host to VM.

    Thanks in advance.
