NFC RF Analysis

Hi!

I'm trying to analyze the RF communication between 2 TRF7970aEVM's, my guess was probing the Rx1/Rx2 headers and the Tx pin.

I tried using a scope for this (tektronix TDS2002b) but the signal was too elusive, maybe I just didn't set it properly.

Can you recommend how to do this? (HW or SW)

I also considered using Labview with an NI USB DAC, or maybe a spectrum analyzer, but couldn't figure out how to do it.

I want to get something like this capture:

thanks.

  • Hey Aviv,

You could try probing the 50 ohm impedance point reference to ground and see if this is what you are looking for.  The problem is there isn't a great place to trigger the O-scope from.

The 50 Ohm impedance point should be right where the antenna connects to the analong front end.

Trying to catch over the air communication is trickier, but you can sometimes pick it up with an o-scope if you connect the ground to the signal probe to creat a loop, and place this inbetween the antenna's.  The signals will be faint, but you can sometimes see the modulation this way.

    Hope this helps,

    JD
