TRF7960A Android Driver

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7960A, AM3715, TRF7970A, MSP430F5529

Hi,

We are in need of NFC transceiver, currently TRF7960A is being considered.

Could you please let me know about the availability of driver for Android 4.1.2? The processor is AM3715.

Software support will bring down the timeline for proto-development. Kindly let me know in case you need any clarification.

  • please have a look at the TRF7970A...as the TRF7960A is not NFC transceiver, just NFC/RFID reader/writer...which TI sales person are you working with?

  • Josh,

Thanks for the info, we have a TI corner in our campus and we usually work with your FAE, Paul Aritra.

Would you be able to support us with Android stack for TRF7970A?

  • yes - but - to be clear - you will need to use MSP430F5529 + TRF7970A...this is the standard NFCLink hardware/firmware set, then the Android stack side is handled via what we can provide you that was developed with our partner Stollmann. Let me know if the below is something you can deal with - (you need MCU here, running NCI to/from Android)

Currently, we are running this on a Pandaboard + the HW mentioned above (see picture) - then:

    • Image and drivers are loaded onto SD card (for Pandaboard).
    • When Android system is powered up, with the NFCLink hardware connected; then NFCLink hardware will activate switching between being reader/writer, initiator and target.
    • Card emulation is not supported here in this particular demo.  (as this version of Android (pre-Kit Kat) does not support CE, this can be modified as the HW and lower layer firmware is supporting this)
    • User is able to write NFC apps using Android SDK as normal for NFC devices and use this hardware configuration as a drop in.
    • User is also able to use current Android apps already in existence (just like what you can do today with any NFC enabled handset)
    • This uses MSP-EXP430F5529 + TRF7970ATB hardware combination and uses NCI over USB.
    • User would operate this hardware configuration like any tablet or handset (but with keyboard and mouse and shown here with HD monitor)
  • your quick response is appreciated, will get back to you shortly..
