CC1190 Front End with CC430, power supply question

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1190, TPS62730

Hi, I'm currently develop a prototype board based on CC430 and antenna #6 from TI DK. Trying to be proactive, in the case the delivered range is not sufficient I would like to prepare a second board, this time with the CC1190 chip as a front end, based on TI recommendations.

In order to preserve the battery life, I use a DC/DC converter (TPS62730) which apparently cannot deliver more than 100mA peak current. But in AN094 it is stated that the maximum current drawn at +18dBm is 120mA, more than 100mA unfortunately.

The question is if there is a replacement for TPS62730 which satisfy the current requirements.

Thanks,

Dragos

  • Consider to use the TPS62730 only on the CC430. You don't really gain to much (if anything) by running the CC1190 on a TPS. The power down current of the CC1190 is just a few nA so in effect it only contribute to the current consumption when it is in Rx or Tx.
