Hi,

My customer is using CC2500 coupled with an arduino board to communicate with a remote device using a simple packet protocol. The communication is simple raw point-point. Now they would like to get rid of arduino and move the code on a SoC. They came with an solution to use CC2531. To my impression it won't work since CC2531 has a different PHY. Which SoC would be compatible with CC2500 raw communication packet?

Hello Dmitri,

The CC2510 is an SoC which has the same transceiver as CC2500 inside. But our CC254x devices is also compatible at certain settings (250 kbps and 500 kbps) with the CC2500 PHY.

Hi Erick,

Thanks for quick response. It was a surprise to me CC254x would work as well. Could you suggest settings for the chip? Is it possible to use Packet Sniffer tool with CC2540 dongle to catch CC2500 packets?

Hello Dmitri,

If you open smartRFStudio and use the typical settings configuration i think you should be able to get a link. Anyway i attached some old smartRFStudio configuration files you can test. I havent reviewed them recently so there might be some settings that are not optimal. Let me know if you have any problems.

No you cannot use the CC2540 as a packet sniffer for the proprietary packets. We are considering to add support in the packet sniffer for CC2544, but I do not know of any date set for this yet. You should use smartRFStudio to sniff packets.

Hi Erik,

I checked the file you sent and I don't see CC2540 there. Also the cc2540/cc2541 user guide describes proprietary mode radio for CC2541 only. Does it mean CC2540 can't talk to CC2500? Only CC2541/43/44/45?

Correct, CC2540 is a BLE device only.
