RF Energy Harvesting module DEMO Kit

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: RF430FRL152H, RF430CL330H

Hi all,

Now I am using a Demo Kit produced by TI(RF Energy Harvesting Temperature sensor patch) using RF430FRL152H. The sensor patch is using Energy Harvesting technique to generate its own energy. My doubt is:

1. Is RF430FRL152H capable of energy harvesting on its own ?

2. If not what is the module(IC) inside the sensor patch that is responsible for Energy Harvesting ??

Please post the answers as soon as possible........

  • Hi Venkata,
Yes, the energy harvesting capability is integrated in the RF430FRL152H. Have a look at this TI design which uses RF430FRL152H and thermistor to make temperature measurements also being powered from the NFC field.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your reply. Is there any chance of increasing storage memory in the transponder IC so that i can store more no of samples..?

  • If you are operating the device from a battery or power supply, you can use the RAM for logging. There is about 3.5kB of it available on the transponder IC and there is a register which allows you to log your samples there (section 7.9 - Error control register - bit 5 - Firmware User Guide).
  • Hi Alexander,

We have to use the RAM for logging through firmware adjustment ??

Are there any other transponder IC's having more memory than this..??

Is there any iPhone app for texas NFC sensor patch reading..??

You can use the RAM for logging if you need more memory, however you need to have either one of the cases below:

    • You can maintain RF power over the entire sampling period and RF readout, or
    • You can use a battery to power the chip during the sampling period and RF readout

As noted above, if you choose to use the RAM for logging, all you have to do is set the RAM logging option over RF (see above)

We have another transponder IC called, the RF430CL330H, but it has only RAM for NDEF storage and does not have ADC sampling capabilities.

IPhone cannot be used for communication as it does not support reader/writer mode, only tag emulation, that is on the most recent releases.
