CC2541 Proprietary Mode - Different modulations - link budget

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541

Hi,

For CC2541 proprietary mode the following modulations are available.

GFSK_250kbps_160khz
GFSK_1Mbps_160khz
GFSK_1Mbps_250khz
GFSK_2Mbps_320khz
GFSK_2Mbps_500khz
MSK_250kbps
MSK_500kbps

Is there any difference between these modulations regarding the link budget and if positive which has the best link budget? Any other advantages/disadvantage for each of these modulations?

Thank you

  • Hi,

Yes, the receiver sensitivity improves with the reduction of Receive channel filter bandwidth, which in-turn improves the link budget.

Higher data rate and Higher deviation requires higher Rx fliter bandwindth, which degrades the sensitivity of the receiver.

    As per the data sheet,

    MSK-250KBPS has -99dBm Receive sensitivity

    GFSK-250KBPS has -98dBm Receive sensitivity

So, either of the above modes can be used to get a best link budget.

Please refer to the RF Receive section of the data sheet for further details.

    Thanks,
