RF430CL330HRGT exposed thermal pad connection

Hi,

as there is no precise information in the datasheet, my question is: can I connect the exposed thermal pad of RF430CL330HRGT to power ground of my PCB or should I isolate it and connect to some copper acting as heatsink only?

For sure you could isolate it and connect to copper acting as heatsink only since there is a pin input for ground (pin 13). However I will have to get back to you if this thermal pad can be connected to ground.

Hi Sebalos,

I recommend connecting the thermal pad to your ground plane. This device is not an intentional radiator, so it is generally pretty low power and does not generate much heat, therefore the size of the plane is not a large concern. If you are interested, you can find the thermal characteristics for both TSSOP and QFN packages in section 4.8 of the datasheet.

I think that the information about recommended exposed pad connection should be added to datasheet of the device as it is for many TI's devices.
