custom protocol for sensors connecting through 13.56MHz Rfid frequency

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ISO7810, TRF7963A

Hi there,

I used the TRF7963 before and have now an application where I want to use RFID band for short range (2m) connection of sensors.

Questions:

is the direct mode of the TRF7963 useful for this?

what other TI solution would make this possible in the 13.45MHz band avoiding a 13.56MHz  external clock on the TFR7963 ?

Thanks for helping

Ralph

  • Ralph -
you will never get 2 meters using the TRF7963. Best i think you can hope for is about 28 cm inches maxmimum using about a 300mm x 300mm antenna and a full ISO7810 / ID1 size transponder. (45mm x 76mm)

same antenna and tag, connected to Feig LR2000, running @ 8W will get you out to about 75cm., so you would have to go bigger on the antenna (maybe to 600mm x 800mm, or larger) and possibly do a custom (larger) tag, too.
  • Hi Josh.

yea 28cm would be ok as well for a DIN-Rail concept, where the sensors are lined up but even so the antenna size is too big.

Last time I used the TRF7963a the required distance was 2-4 cm

Looks like I got to go back to some mid GHz band

    Thanks for that helpful answer.
