Using FPC cable for Antenna at TRF7970A

Hello Champs,

One of my customer would like to separate TRF7970A board and antenna pattern board for their system.
They will use FPC cable for connecting NFC antenna.

I've checked several TI documents and design reference, but there're no case using separate main board and antenna board.

So I would like to know the FPC cable usage is acceptable or not in the NFC reader application.
(I think using FPC cable may cause the power delivery loss and antenna matching problem.)

Hello Ernest,

You can use an FPC cable for the antenna. We have seen a few applications where flex PCB antennas are used and some of them used FPC connectors and cables. To account for any matching problems, you'd just need to be sure to tune for the 50 ohms including the FPC cable, just as you would with SMA/u.fl cables. In the flexible PCB application I recall, it didn't seem like there was any notable power loss or range reduction.
