Opening TI reference designs on KiCAD?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1190, CC1310

Hi, I have been trying to open the TI CC1190 reference design project on KiCAD (so that I can simply copy over the antenna design to my project)- however, I can't really open the board files using Eagle or KiCAD. Do I have to buy Altium/ Cadence to actually use these reference designs? I'd be really helpful if there was a converter I could use.

Kind regards,

Savinda

  • Hi Savinda,

I am not sure exactly which reference design you are referring to, but depending on when it was designed it is either made in Zuken Cadstar or Cadence.

As far as I know, there are no good way to copy designs from one CAD tool to another.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Thanks for your reply, Fredrik. Could you please also tell me whether it was Cadence Allegro or Cadence OrCad that was used for the reference design or could I use either to open them?
I would like to use the existing TI antenna designs for my own PCB with a CC1310 and possibly a CC1190. My problem is that right now I don't have a reliable way of copying these designs onto KiCAD. Since I've got little prior experience designing high frequency PCBs and no experience with antenna design, I don't know how I'd be able to match an antenna for operation in the 915MHz band (902-928) without copying over the TI board files.

Is trying to copy the antenna and matching section dimensions by looking at the PDF files reliable enough?

    Thanks again for your assistance.
