CC2541 : Frequency and Channel Programming

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541

Hi,

It seems there are two ways for Frequency and Channel Programming in CC2541 (as described in chapter 25.5 Frequency and Channel Programming)

1- For normal transmit and receive tasks, the carrier frequency is set by using the PRF_CHAN.FREQ register.

2- If PRF_CHAN.FREQ is set to 127, and for the RX and TX test commands, the frequency must be programmed directly in hardware registers.

My questions are:

1- What are the main differences between these two ways of frequency programming?

2- Should LLE be idle when using either way to select a frequency?

3- Which way is the faster way to change channel?

Thanks

  • Hi,

I have similar query. I would like to add one more thing on above query. Is there any minimum time required to change the channels?

    Thanks
  • Hello,
Is the CC2541 radio mode BLE or Proprietary?
For proprietary mode you can refer to the CC254x Proprietary Mode Packet Error Rate Test (Rev. B) found here:
    www.ti.com/.../toolssoftware

    1. Use the PRF_CHAN.FREQ as this will cause the correct IF to be automatically set as described in the users guide, section 25.5 Frequency and Channel Programming.
    2. The LLE must be idle while changing frequency.
    3. Change frequency in PRF_CHAN.FREQ. Synthesizer calibration is the major contributor to the start-up time. You can find WAKE-UP AND TIMING parameters for the radio in the CC2541 Datasheet. Channel switching in much less (<<) than 1 ms is possible. It depends on power mode, which oscillators that are active and code implementation.
