CC2530-CC2591EM-RD: Connect and disconnect option for CC2591 to save cost

Part Number: CC2530-CC2591EM-RD
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2591, CC2530

Hi experts,

As far as I know that, if I want to extend the range of CC2530, I can use CC2591 range extender and CC2530+CC2591 combination layout shows that the both chips are attached to execute the operation. I am wondering if there is any option to have the flexibility of using CC2591 as an external device (not fully attached to cc2530) so I can plug it in and out whenever needed. It would work like an USB device. When I want to extend the range I'd plug it and when not, I'd remove it. Thanks for any help.

  • Hi,

You need to design like a Mother board and Daughter combination like Plug-in Modules.
I think you can look into CC2530+SE2431 Design. SE2431 has a By-Pass mode. When you don't want to use PA, then you can use By-Pass option.

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

I've looked into the CC2530+SE2431 design. In the layout, both the devices are attached together, But, I don't want to attach the range extender for now to save cost. Moreover, I want to keep a port open with the CC2530 design so in future when I need to extend the range I'd just plug the range extender and go. Is it possible with either the CC2530 or the Range extender? Thanks.

    Regards,
