TRF7970AEVM: TRF7970AEVM External Power Amplifier for smart phone P2P

Part Number: TRF7970AEVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430F5529, MSP430F2370, TRF7970A

I read through HF Power Amplifier from Tibor and answer John Crutchfield.

And get P2P source from Ralph Jacobi.

RF was always hard thing to fix on me. So I did not include RF Amp and change MCU

from MSP430F2370 to MSP430F5529 on my second TRF7970AEVM clone.
My second TRF7970AEVM clone only MCU differ from Origin.

It use MSP430F5529 for P2P as mentioned John Crutchfield.

While I P2P test between My second TRF7970AEVM clone and smart phone,

P2P affected on distance and angle critically.

Distance and angle need more torrence for our development to be saleable.

I think to get more distance and angle torrence while P2P the RF performance would be increased more then TRF7970AEVM have.

Except Tiber’s mail, I have TRF7970AEVM power and antenna size increasing application report on TI’s e2e.ti.com.

It’s title is “TRF7970A External Power Amplifier“ was written by Kostas Aslanidis, Felix Risch in SLOAxxxx-5/2013.

I think SLOAxxxx-5/2013 replication make and test is short cut of RF performance increasing.

As I mentioned before, RF is always hard thing to fix on me.

Any advice on TRF7970AEVM RF performance increasing would be help me.

Appreciate for reading my request!

I waiting for advice.

  • Hello seokbong,

The Power Amplifier app note you have has never been officially released, and at this point of time we offer no support at all for HF Power Amplifiers.

Also just for your benefit, that power amp was designed for Reader mode and not Peer to Peer mode so it may not be very effective.

Again, best advice for improving RF performance is to make sure the antenna is properly tuned per: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/sloa241
