Starterware/TRF7970A: SDM

Part Number: TRF7970A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7960A,

Tool/software: Starterware

The following is a part of TI Special Direct Mode.

Could you let me know the reason why we do not need a Dummy Read in the case of the above (due to SS high)?

We see also the dummy read for another part.

If we send 0x4C, no dummy read process required, and in sending 0x6C, additional dummy read (ex.0x3E)?

  • Hello Naoki-san,

I don't believe the dummy read is actually required there.

For the older TRF7960A devices, that was a requirement for the IRQ to be properly reset, but the TRF7970A doesn't need the dummy read. The SDM code was adapted from examples for the 60A so I believe that the dummy read seen there is just an artifact of the older 60A code that didn't get removed. Feel free to remove the dummy read, the operation should not be affected by doing so.

  • Ralph,

    I much apprecaite your comment.
