TRF7960: UID with more than 64 bit

Part Number: TRF7960
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7964A, TRF7970A

Hello, this is a theoretical question. If there were transponders with an UID longer than 64 bit, could the TRF7960 read them? Would anti-collision work, etc. ? Thanks for answer! (ISO15693)

  • Hello Thomas,

As long as the transponder uses the ISO15693 air interface, yes! The TRF7960 is an RFID transceiver which is controlled by an MCU, and it serves to encode/decode data transmitted over the air. Data is loaded and read out of the FIFO via SPI, and the interpretation of the data received is up to you. The TRF7960 has been used for many proprietary applications where ISO15693 custom commands were used, which is basically what you are describing. It would be up to you to define how anti-collision would work.

That all said, I would recommend using the TRF7970A or TRF7964A as they are the latest versions of the device.
