Suggestion for RF Radio Transceiver having 1 Mbps or above radio baud rate capability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101, CC2500, CC2540, CC2541

Dear All,

I'm looking for a radio transceiver having ISM band of 2.4 GHz. I've a product with CC1101 radio (sub 1GHz) and want to upgrade it to 2.4 GHz band.

Radio transceiver for 2.4GHz should have:

  • At least 1 Mbps radio baud rate
  • It should give direct access to radio root registers to play with it internal configurations (like CC1101).

I've have seen CC2500 radio transceiver, its look good for me but it has a 500kbps baud rate.

RF radio transceivers will be preferred instead of RF radio SOC type(Wireless MCU) until unless they provide root access to their radio RF registers.

Thank you.

  • Hi Hassaan,

All of the CC254x devices, except CC2540, supports up to 2 Mbps GFSK and provide access to all radio registers.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • Dear Fredrik K,

Your suggested RF radio series does not give us option for variable radio baud rate[250 Kbps, 500 Kbps, 1 Mbps or 2 Mbps only] like in case of CC2500[1.2 Kbps - 500 Kbps]

[Issue 1] Can I use external Microcontroller like Arduino or STM32 to access RF radio register Only without using the on board  Microcontroller capabilities on CC254X devices.

[Issue 2] As i am unable to find relevant examples? can you point to any source.

[Issue 3] Do CC254X supports Carrier Sense(CS) or Channel Clear Assesment(CCA) capability i cant find it in Datasheet or User Guide.

    Thank you.

    regards,

    Hassaan

This is the second listed feature on the front page of the CC2541 datasheet: "Supports 250-kbps, 500-kbps, 1-Mbps, 2- 256-KB Mbps Data Rates"

No. You can only access the registers through the onboard 8051 controller.

Not directly, you would have to implement this yourself.

    Fredrik

  • Dear Fredrik K,
    Thanks for your prompt reply

" This is the second listed feature on the front page of the CC2541 datasheet: "Supports 250-kbps, 500-kbps, 1-Mbps, 2- 256-KB Mbps Data Rates "

[1] yes we know that CC254X supports these Radio baud rates but we want variable baud rates like 150 Kbps, 1.3 Mbps,1.7 Mbps
[2] Can we also change Frequency Deviation value other than 160,250,320 and 500 Khz
