Hello ladies and gentlemen! Currently, according to the price list of products TI, transponders RI-TRP-RFOB-01 removed from production. Please tell me, can you replace RI-TRP-RFOB-01 with ri-TRP-R9QL transponder by functional characteristics?

The correct replacement for that RFOB tag would be this R/O Transponder: http://www.ti.com/product/TRPGR30ATGA

Please also note that unlike the R9QL device you mention which is on LIFEBUY status, the TRPGR30ATGA is an ACTIVE product as well.

Greetings to You dear Lord and thank you for your answer! I should be grateful and thankful if You can explain in more detail! What transponders can be replaced without changing the existing ri-TRP-RFOB-01 system? According to datasheet RI-TRP-R9QL corresponds to RI-TRP-RFOB-01, and Your proposed transponder TRPGR30ATGA has a different Operating Frequency 134.2 кHz. The question will replace the RI-TRP-R9QL used me RI-TRP-RFOB-01?

Hello Vladimir,

I am not sure where your confusion on the datasheets are. Both devices operate within the 134kHz LF RFID band, the .4 kHz difference in resonance frequency is negligible at best. Note that both the RFOB device and the TRPGR30ATGA devices operate with the following modulation: FSK (Frequency Shift Keying) 134.2 kHz / 123.2 kHz. These devices are fully compatible.

I have been ensured by the product engineers that the TRPGR30ATGA it is the intended replacement silicon for the RI-TRP-RFOB-01.

Thank you for the answer! Tell me another such moment. TRPGR30ATGA also has a plastic case as RI-TRP-ROOM-01 or case fragile glass require extra protection?

Hello Vladimir,

As stated on the product page, it is glass encapsulated. We no longer offer LF RFID tags with plastic casings like the RI-TRP-RFOB-01. You can work with 3rd parties to get the tags encapsulated in more durable materials.

Am I right? Ri-TRP-RFOB-01 modules are not available.TRPGR30ATGA have a fragile housing. Can I use RI-TRP-R9QL or not? If not why?

Hello Vladimir,

You can if you really want to, but I don't think it's a smart business model to depend on a part we have explicitly stated is LIFEBUY and soon will not be selling when inventory runs out. The TRPGR30ATGA would be much safer for future-proofing your application as there are no plans to cut it from production. From a pure business standpoint, I cannot recommend an EOL part, but ultimately the choice is in your hands...

Agreed. We need to add 100 units to the transponder Park to close the deficit problem for the next three years, until the system as a whole is modernized. At the moment it is required to replenish the fleet of existing transponders without the involvement of third parties. so the question will work RI-TRP-R9QL together with RI-TRP-RFOB-01?

Hello Vladimir,

Thanks for sharing that, provides me a lot more clarity on the situation.

The R/O transponder functionality for the RI-TRP-R9QL and RI-TRP-RFOB-01 is the same in terms of operational frequency, memory bits, etc., however, some application dependent RF characteristics like the read range and reading field will be different as the antenna shape is different. If this disk shaped antenna works for you in place of the keyfob, then sure no problem to use that given the low unit count requirement.

However, if you discover that you require the same antenna characteristics as the RI-TRP-RFOB-01 to work with your system, then the only solution would be the TRPGR30ATGA 23mm Glass transponder which could be put into a key fob housing similar to the RFOB tag.

Hello Ralph,

Thank you for the detailed answer. Now the reader uses the antenna in the form of a square frame with an edge length of 20 cm Frame placed vertically. I believe that both transponders will work. Is that right?

Hello Vladimir,

That is not something we can answer, read range is application specific. You will need to test that on your end to validate that the tag will work within your system.
