TRF7960: Dual power

Part Number: TRF7960

Hello

I'm having a small range problem using the TRF7960 and the tiny Murata rfid chip (LXMS33HCNG). Is it possible to power the TRF7960 PA only with 5V leaving the rest of the chip powered by 3v3 so that the MCU interface can be left at 3v3, to boost the output? And if doing so, do I need to set the 5V operation bit  in the status control register to get anything out of it?

/Mikael

  • Hello Mikael,

The MCU interface pins such as SPI lines and IRQ will output based on the VDD_IO voltage provided to the device. You can supply VIN with 5V and set the device to 5V mode without impacting your MCU interface voltages as long as VDD_IO is appropriately routed to either the MCU VIN rail or to VDD_X if you are using a 3.3V MCU.
