Hello Chris,

The TRF7970AEVM has been EOL'd and the firmware used on it is extremely out of date and has known bugs which were never resolved. What is your purpose for using the TRF7970AEVM?

Hi, Ralph. I have a client who is using the EVM boards in a piece of demo hardware. They'd like to build several more of these units, eventually heading toward low volume production (100s to 1000s). As you mentioned, the boards are EOL so I'm hoping to re-create the EVM in a better form-factor PCB and then push the firmware (adding a few optimizations) onto the new board. Whaddaya think?

Hello Chris,

You are free to do so, but from a support standpoint we will not offer any support for the TRF7970AEVM firmware base period, so you'd be on your own in that regard. If you are fine with that, all the power to you.

Depending on their demo needs, it might make more sense to port our latest RFID reader firmware (http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sloc297) to the EVM hardware you are making instead. If you were using that software, then the door would be open to seek TI support.

Anyways, if you feel confident in being able to fix up the EVM firmware, then all I can do as someone who used to have to delve into it is wish you the best of luck... you'll need it: http://www.ti.com/lit/zip/sloc300
