RF430CL330H: Antenna selection

Part Number: RF430CL330H

Hi,

I am working on a design where i want to use the RF430CL330H to establish a bluetooth connection with a smartphone.

I would like to use one of the following NFC antennas:

Do you see any issues when using this antennas together with the RF430CL330H?

Best Regards,

Stefan

  • Hello Stefan,

The Taoglas antenna would not be a good idea as that is an antenna for NFC Reader devices and is matched to 50 ohm impedance which is typical for NFC reader antennas. The RF430CL330H meanwhile is an NFC transponder and the antenna circuitry differs as it is a resonant antenna that doesn't rely on 50 ohm match. See www.ti.com/.../sloa197.pdf for some details on that.

The Molex antenna is more reasonable to me. The inductance of 2.76uH means you'd need about 50pF total capacitance for tuning and you'll get about ~35pF of that from the RF430CL330H internal capacitance, so you'd just need 15pF external to get the resonant circuit at a good tuning level.
