TRF7960A: For new design - TRF7960A oder TRF7970A

Part Number: TRF7960A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TRF7970A

Hallo,

we have specified already an antenna for our application by using the TRF7960A and it works well.
The application is door control. Now I would like to start with the application software by using a PIC or Atmel micro.

Is it better to change to the TRF7970A now?
Which evaluation board and software should I use for that?

Thanks for answering
Beat

  • Hello Beat,

Yes now would be a good time as there are a lot of software differences.

We don't have examples for either of those MCU's, but you can port our TI example code to them which is the recommended method to move forward. This allows you re-use all the device drivers and NFC/ISO standard compliant software layers we already developed.

Please see Section 1.3 of our FAQ guide for recommended hardware and software: www.ti.com/.../sloa246
  • Hallo Ralph,
    thanks for quick response.
Software example code is fine, helps. So I am going to start with TRF7970A.
I assume that the RF antenna for both parts are identical.

    Best Regards,
    Beat

Yes. Hardware wise as far as components and layout both devices are identical, it's only in software they differ by a notable amount where the TRF7970A has new features and addressed issues with SPI as well as having a larger FIFO.
