RF430FRL152HEVM: Trouble connecting to TI GUI

I have installed the "GUI using TRF7970EVM to interface to RF430FRL15xH." When I plug the reader (RF430FRL152H EVM) into the computer, it does not seem like the GUI recognizes this. When I click connect, nothing happens. Also, if I try to run the demo, I get an error saying "Please open the serial port before using this feature." I am not sure how to set this up, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello Alexa,

I am not sure if I understand you correctly. You wrote you plug in the RF430FRL152HEVM to the computer.

The RF430FRL152HEVM must not be plugged to the computer. The TRF7970EVM is the reader that has to be plugged to the computer.

Thank you for the information. The RF430FRL152HEVM came with a USB attachment, so I thought it would be able to be plugged into the computer. I do not have the TRF7970EVM. Is there any way that I can read a tag from the RF430FRL152HEVM without the additional hardware?

Hello Alexa,

the RF430FRL152HEVM is a sensor tag which operates according the ISO15693 standard. Any smartphone which is NFC enabled can read or write blocks of the RF430FRL152HEVM.

With the TRF7970ABP Boosterpack together a MSP430G2 Launchpad you can build an ISO15693 compatible reader which is supported by the RF430FRL152HEVM GUI. This GUI makes it easy to setup the RF430FRL152HEVM and read measured data like temperature from this sensor tag.
