The frame format is compatible with the 802.15.4. The preamble + sync word equates to preamble + SFD mentioned in the specification.
Other devices using the same phy and phy configuration should be compatible.

The 24 bit(3 octet) syncword includes final 8 bits of preamble + 16 bits(2 octet) of SFD.
It would look more clear when you convert the syncword(0x55904E) in binary. This would be 0101 0101 1001 0000 0100 1110 (preamble SFD)
This frame format is compatible with the 802.15.4 spec.
