CC1310: Drop-in compatibility to CC1350?

Part Number: CC1310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1350, LAUNCHXL-CC1350,

We currently use CC1350 in a product, but we only use the sub-1 GHz radio. So we should be able to use CC1310 as well. Our hope is that these chips are 100% firmware compatible when running a sub-1 Ghz application.

However, we see that SmartRF Studio generates different control words to generate the different power settings between the two devices. We'd like to know the significance of this - is it just slightly different optimizations in the 0.xdB range, or are the differences more profound, or are the settings not compatible at all?

Sorry if this question arrives in several channels, but our assigned application engineer is out on vacation and we'd prefer to get this question answered before he comes back.

  • Hi Pål,

You are correct, those are slightly different optimizations.
One reason for the settings difference is that the LAUNCHXL-CC1350 has a switch on its RF output port, whose loss has to be accounted for.

The LAUNCHXL-CC1310 does not have such a switch, hence the different settings.

    Regards,

    Arthur
