Problem with IAR

Hello everyone,

i work with a cc1110 mini development kit and need to install IAR embeddet workbench 8051 in order to make code and to debug it, I use win XP and the driver install for the debugger was fine.

I downloaded the free 30 day trail of it and when I try to make files or to debug I get the following error.

Error[e12]: Unable to open file 'C:\Programme\IAR Systems\Embedded Workbench 6.0 Evaluation\8051\config\lnk51ew_cc1110.xcl'

I assume that this is because IAR has a problem and not my code because it is the path where I installed IAR.

So I downloaded the trail again but the error remains.

Now I dont now what to do and I need your help to fix my problem.

Hi Rick

Go to Project ->Options->Linker->Config and check that the "Overide default" option is on.

Thanks for your answer Martin,

the "Overide default" optioni was on but the error still remains.

I browsed through my project and found out that there is no "Chipcon" folder in the path where it belongs in order to the error message.

The problem accurs since I installed the trail new. Is there a way to fix it?

In the config folder, there should be a folder named "devices\Texas Instruments\" where you can find the linker file "lnk51ew_cc1110F32.xcl".

Try to overide with this file.

I tried to use the cc1110F32.xcl File in the "devices\Texas Instruments\" Folder and get the following error:

Error[e16]: Segment PDATA_Z (size: 0 align: 0) is too long for segment definition. At least 0 more bytes needed. The problem occurred while processing the segment placement command
"-Z(XDATA)PDATA_Z,PDATA_I=_PDATA0_START-_PDATA0_END", where at the moment of placement the available memory ranges were "-none-"
   Reserved ranges relevant to this placement:
   XDATA:f000-f1fe      XSTACK
   BIT:0-7              BREG
   BIT:80-87            SFR_AN
   BIT:90-97            SFR_AN
   BIT:a0-af            SFR_AN
   BIT:c0-c7            SFR_AN
   BIT:d8-df            SFR_AN

Hi,

try to change to XDATA calling convention and be sure to use Data model Large.

Hello,

I encountered the same problem. Although I had already did the solutions here (making the data model Large and calling convention to XDATA stack reentrant), the problem wasn't gone.

I have fixed it by using an older release of IAR. Maybe we have to wait for the next release.

Hello Deniz,

I found a solution by trying. Go to the Projekt->Options menu. Click on the linker menu, check override default and search for folder IAR Systems/Embedded Workbench(Whatever Version)/8051/config/devices/Texas Instruments/and then use your file thats missing. In my case it was 'lnk51ew_CC1111' .

IAR Embedded Workbench is in my case looking for that path in the first place but isnt able to find the File there so I had to add the File manually which I dont quite understand yet but it works for now.

Hello Deniz,

Have you worked with IAR 8051 or other IAR workbench? Cause I'm having same problem but I could not find older release of IAR 8051. I need help to fix the problem.

Hi Martin Ferenc,

Just to let everyone know: the per_test_cc1110_cc2510 project is designed to work with the CC1110DK (and CC2510DK). I don't believe the CC1110 mini-DK, mentioned by the thread starter, contains the necessary hardware.

You get the linker configuration error because IAR cannot locate the .xcl file specified by the project. The reason for this is that the per_test_xxx project is built using an old version of IAR and that the way the linker configuration files are organized was changed as of IAR 7.60.

To fix the problem, follow the instructions below:

Select the correct device (<IAR install>\8051\config\devices\Texas Instruments). Notice that IAR now differentiates on the flash version of the chip (e.g. CC1110F16, CC1110F32, etc.)
For the per_test_xx project, select Large data model
and the XDATA stack reentrant calling convention
Now, under Linker, uncheck the "Override default".
