CC1310: Universal ISM dual band device (regarding antennas)

Hello,

I would like to ask you about your opinion for designing the CC1310 transmitter for either 868 and 915 MHz, i was considering two options for RF part:

using dualband antenna from johanson: 0900AT43A0070
1. parameters are not that great
2. do you anyone have some experience with this antenna?
using two seperate RF traces one ended with 0868AT43A0020 with proper layout, matching and filtering and second ended with 0915AT43A0026.
1. selection of the trace would be soved by assembly in manufacturer side by 0R motive (or capacitor) with one common pad to not have any spare tails.
2. would this be an OK soulution or is it complete nonsense?

I am quite scared about the dual band antenna regarding the parameters.

Board is large enough for both soulutions. We really need best parameters possible.

Then I would just use the DN024 antenna that we have used on the LaunchPad designs to cover both 868 and 915 MHz with excellent performance. This will have a higher efficiency than the chip antenna.

well, there is not that amount of space on the pcb, so i would need to use chip antenna.

Hi,

yes i am aware of that, but we are using chip antenna on our 868 pcb and it works pretty fine, so i would go this way. There is noone who has experience with that dual band antenna from johanson?

Johanson have good chip antenna solutions that work fine for both 868 MHz and 915 MHz.

We used chip antennas in the first CC-Antenna-DK: https://www.ti.com/lit/swra328

See section 4.8.2. for the chip antennas.

The bandwidth of your antenna will be dependent on the size of your GND plane. If you have a small GND plane, then you might need to compromise on the performance of one of the bands.
