In the ti example and the figure you posted, external flash starts (address 0x00000000) with the efl headers. Each header contains a pointer/address to the actual image. So the application/BIM can go through all the headers and map out which addresses are occupiied ad which are free.

Are you using a TI software stack, e.g. TI 15.4-Stack or BLE-Stack?

Assuming TI 15.4-Stack, you can find the documentation for external flash image header here:

Comparing to the off-chip OAD example (sensor_oad_offchip_secure_LP_CC1352P7_1_tirtos7_ticlang); you can find the definitions in application/sensor/oad/ext_flash_layout.h. They are used in application/sensor/oad/native_oad/oad_storage.c.

Ok so you are using the BLE-Stack.

In this case you can find the definitions in this file: OAD/flash_interface.h and flash_interface_ext_rtos_NVS.h.

We want to use "Variable space for user applications" to save our application data as following picture。

How can we calculate "N x EFL_PAGE_SIZE", other words the absolute address of the arrow position。

Hi Hongbo,

N is the number of images currently stored on external flash. The images can have any size, and if you erase an image you can replace it with an image of a different size.

I would recommend you make a protected area for your application data and put it at the end of external flash (EFL_SIZE). Or is your application data also varying in size?

(In general I would recommend using internal flash for application data. This is more convenient and a lot faster than using external flash.)

We calculate the unused internal flash. We found it is not enough for our application.

Hi Hongbo,

N refers to the number of images currently stored on externa flash. So if external flash is empty, N=0. If you load a factory image to external flash, N=1. If you add another image N=2 etc.
