LP-CC1311P3: Can LP output frequencies besides 868-915MHz?

Part Number: LP-CC1311P3
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1311P3

The user guide and quick-start guide isn't clear whether the launchpad can output frequencies besides 868MHz or 915MHz. The CC1311P3 is designed to operate in many other frequency bands so I am wondering if the launchpad can be used to output 400MHz if using the SMA connecter? Any information is appreciated!

  • Hi,

As you point out, you can refer to Section 8.9 of the CC1311P3 Datasheet: https://www.ti.com/lit/swrs255 to find a list of the possible frequency bands that the CC1311P3 is compatible with.

However, the LaunchPad is optimised for operation in the 868/915 MHz bands so you would need to manually modify the BOM of the RF path for acceptable performance at the other frequency bands.

What we would currently recommend is evaluating the performance of one of the other CC13xx LaunchPads that are optimised for operation at 433 MHz (for example the LP-CC1352P7-4: https://www.ti.com/tool/LP-CC1352P7 ). The CC1311P3 was actually characterised on the LP-CC1352P7-4 platform for 433 MHz operation (the datasheet will be updated to correct this).

So, if you are mainly interested in the radio performance only you can just evaluate the LP-CC1352P7-4 as-is because the radio performance is comparible. Alternatively you could mount a CC1311P3 onto a LP-CC1352P7-4 as it is pin-pin compatible.

  • Is the output power for the LP-CC1352P7-4 adjustable at 433MHz such that it may output -5dBm or 0dBm? Or is it only able to output +13dBm?

  • Yes, you can evaluate this using SmartRF Studio 7https://www.ti.com/tool/SMARTRFTM-STUDIO

It has a range of output power settings, from +13 dBm to -11 dBm.
