CC1310: Loss of RF signal when temperature is raising

Part Number: CC1310

Tool/software:

Hi,

Our customer recently reported poor RF quality on the field. After some investigations, we setup a chamber test & found out:

Conditions:

- CC1310_1 in the chamber, Tx a frame every second

CC1310_2 outside the chamber and keep Rx On.

(1) When temperature is raising from 25°C to 65°C, CC1310_1 Tx stopped. CC1310_2 received nothing.

(2) After 20 minutes, CC1310_1 Tx worked again. CC1310_2 received frame again.

(3) From (1),  CC1310_1 Tx worked normally if do CMD_FS before Tx a frame.

Are these results above normal in CC1310 when temperature changes?

Thanks,

  • Hi,

The CC1310 is characterised over operating temperatures of -45C to 85C (as indicated in the datasheet) and good performance is expected across this temperature range.

Has the customer tested the output frequency over the range of temperatures described (25C and 65C) using a spectrum analyser to check if it is shifting with temperature?

If the shift in temperature is large enough whilst the radio is on, the synth may be out of lock and a recalibration required. This requires restarting TX. It is recommended to try recalibration of the synth first.
