LP-EM-CC1354P10: CCS Theia and energy trace

Part Number: LP-EM-CC1354P10
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: ENERGYTRACE

Tool/software:

Hi,

We are evaluating the cc1354 for a new project.  We have been able to create a project using ccs theia but could not find how to start the energy trace.

The menu is here but greyed out.

And we also could not find how to run in standalone.

My questions:

- How can I run energy trace?

- Do you recommend Theia for new development with the cc1354?

Thanks!

Cédric

  • Hi Cédric,

in CCS Theia Energy Trace can be used when you started a debug session. You can then use breakpoints to measure the energy consumption in between.

We recommend to use CCS Theia for new developments.

    Kind regards,
    Theo

  • Thanks you for the response,

Unfortunately, We still can't activate energy trace with the debug sessions started. ( We use LPXDS110ET and LP_CC1354P10-01), I've also tested with breakpoint, but still the same issue where the menu is greyed out.

Maybe it's a Theia issue ? the energy trace is working on standard CCS.

    thanks,

    Valentin

  • Hi Valentin,

I tested this now on my setup and I was able to reproduce what you're observing. After a discussion with my colleagues we raised the issue with R&D. It will be fixed with future CCS Theia updates so that it will work as expected.

Thank you for making us aware of that!

Until it is fixed you can use the energy trace functionality with Code Composer Studio as you already mentioned.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

    Kind regards,
    Theo

  • Hi,

Thank you for the response, Did you know when this update is going to be out ?

is there any other way to use energytrace ++ to see the power mode of the device ?

Like something to bypass the limitation of Theai and use energytrace++ ?

    Best regards,

    Valentin Künti

  • Hi Valentin,

I can't give you an exact date but I'm in contact with R&D and it is in the pipeline. Since we focus on CCS Theia it is updated frequently.

If you start developing now and need to use energy trace I recommend you to install the latest Code Composer Studio version: https://www.ti.com/tool/download/CCSTUDIO and to use it with this IDE.

    Kind regards,
    Theo
