CC1352P: Do I need MSP432 for CC1352 to work

Dear Team,

I have 20 gas sensor nodes.Each node consist of a gas sensor + CC1352P. These gas sensor nodes will communicate to a central node which consist of CC1352P only and data from the central node will go to PC.

When I checked the evaluation board of CC1352P it consists of MSP432E401YTPDT.May I knkw why it is used.Can CC1352P work independently?.

All the sensor nodes will be in sleep state.The central node will regularly wake up each node and check for data.

1)Do I need to use MSP432E401YTPDT also in my system?

My block diagram is given below.may I know your thoughts about this.

Hi Hari,

The MSP432 on the development board is used for debugging the CC1352P. The CC1352P can of course operate independently and you do not need an MSP432 on your product!

You block diagram looks like a good starting point! Depending on your throughput, latency and range requirements, I would suggest taking a look at the TI 15.4-Stack. We have step-by-step instructions for setting up your first network here:

As per my knowledge the range of CC1352P is 1km to 5km with data rate upto 4Mbps.Please confirm

My question is will I get this 1km to 5km range both in rural and urban areas.

You will not get land range with a high datarate. I would recommend playing around with https://www.ti.com/tool/RF-RANGE-ESTIMATOR to get a feel of what is possible. This is to a large extent not chip dependent, this is physics.

Hi Hari,

The range you get is determined by the laws of physics, specifically for RF waves. You can see some variation between different chips, indicated by their sensitivity numbers, but the variation is small.

For the 4 MBPS PHY you will probably not be able to achieve 1 or 5 km of range.

Here you can input your parameters and see the estimated range for various PHYs and data rates.
