CC1312R7: Any RF performance degradation in enabling "Force VDDR" and set lower TX Power?

Hi Team,

When I enable "Force VDDR" and set the TX Power to 12.5 dBm (or lower) in the .syscfg GUI menu, it shows the following aleart.

"The selected TX Power requires Force VDDR in Device Configuration to be disabled, otherwise the output power may be wrong and the current draw too high."

Could you please clarify if the only issues with this setting are the deviation from the set output power and increased current consumption? Are there any other potential issues that we should be aware of?

The background for my inquiry is that our device needs to support an output power of 14 dBm, while also having the capability to reduce output power in certain situations (such as when operationg in different regsions).

Hi Tetsu,

"Force VDDR" has only been characterised for the +14 dBm setting, so the risk is that it hasn't been as extensively tested. However, the two potential issues you list would be the main ones.

I am double-checking what the recommended method is for what you are trying to do and will aim to reply with more details by Tuesday next week.

From asking several colleagues, there is not a method to change the "Force VDDR" setting during runtime (this is also discussed by Sid in the following thread: https://e2e.ti.com/support/wireless-connectivity/sub-1-ghz-group/sub-1-ghz/f/sub-1-ghz-forum/1197426/lp-cc1312r7-ccfg-configuration-modification-after-board-boot ).

As before, enabling VDDR BOOST for the lower power settings has not been extensively tested, but the main risks are those you identified in your initial post (deviation from the set output power and increased current consumption).

If you required PA table settings with less deviation from the target setting(s), it is possible to adjust the PA table settings for your designs by following the steps described in Section 10 of SWRA640 (CC13xx/CC26xx Hardware Configuration and PCB Design Considerations): https://www.ti.com/lit/swra640
