CC1310: Are Launchpad CC1310 Rev: 1.4 and CC13-90EU compatible?

Part Number: CC1310
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1190

Hello, Texas Instruments engineers.

I recently purchased a CC13-90 EU Launchpad by mistake, and I am in North America, so I should have purchased a CC13-90US

I have a few questions:

What are the differences between the CC13-90EU and the CC13-90US?

Can I write firmware for the CC13-90EU by configuring the RF for 915 MHz?

I have a Launchpad CC1310 Rev: 1.4 and would like to use it with my CC13-90EU. Is it possible to maintain secure RF links regardless of the characteristics of each transceiver?

Thank you in advance.

  • Hi,

The main difference between the EU and US versions is the SAW filter used (because the frequency bands are different) and there are some differences in the CC1190 impedance matching/filtering:

Additionally, the antenna matching is different (again because of the different frequency bands).

If the RF PHY settings are exactly the same then the two CC1310 devices (with/without the CC1190) will be able to communicate, but the EU CC1310-CC1190 design may have an extremely short range (or not communicate at all) because of the attenuation by the SAW filter/non-optimal impedance matching. That is not a FW difference though, so it can be used for FW development.

You could use almost all of the PHY settings from a CC1310-only design for a CC1310-CC1190 design - the differences would be in the PA table used and DIOs used for the control signals of the CC1190.

  • Hi Zack.

Thank you very much for the explanation.
