What are the environmental cause can decrease the range of CC430F6137 transmission?

Dear All,

Currently in a big fix here. I tested the CC430's TX was giving a nice range at 0dBm to around 10 meters. I was happy. Now as soon as I kept it in a plastic box. The range has dropped down to 4 meters. Is there any guideline for keeping the range untouched for the given case?

The AP also is having 0dBm.

Also would like to know other cause responsible for lowering the range down.

Thanks

  • Rahul Deo,

Is the antenna inside your plastic box? If so, it will de-tune the antenna and you might need to re-optimize the antenna size to match your new environment.

The box also could be made out of plastic that is semi-conductive, which would have a very negative effect on the range.

Try using RSSI of the receiver to figure out how much signal you are loosing.

  • Thanks Sir,

I'll go for retuning the settings. Also will look for the RSSI of the receiver.

However what guidelines I should follow for keeping the antenna issue in mind.

Will only working on PATable work here? Only for AP.

I don't want to increase power consumption on the ED side. And I am free to increase till any power level for AP.

    Thanks again.
