LQI vs RSSI

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1101

Hello,

I am using CC1101 in my star network design wherein one main powered hub communicates with battery powered nodes.. I wanted to adjust the transmit power of the nodes according to the quality of the received signal of each node in order to save the battery power of the node.

What is the best out of RSSI and LQI to achieve my goal? or can i use combination? If the combination is better, what is the relationship or composition of those two parameters to determine the most healthiest link?

  • Hi,

I would use both the RSSI and the LQI since just basing the decision on the RSSI might be incorrect due to external RF noise sources at the same frequency. The LQI gives an indication on how well the modulator can decode the incoming RF data. Refer to the CC1101 datasheet for more info on RSSI and LQI. For RSSI DN505 is also useful.

    Regards,
