How to configure RF parameters for CC430 EM

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SIMPLICITI, CC430F6137, CC430F5137

I am working with cc430f6137 and I want to configure radio parameters such as the data rate, base frequency, transmit power output etc..How can I do that please? I downloaded SmartRF studio 7 and conected my target module(CC430f6137) to my PC via the MSP-FET430UIF, but my target module is not detected by SmartRF studio. Do I need to buy some evaluation board for connecting my target module with my PC? or is there other alternative to configure the RF parameters (without using the SmartRF Studio), just by modifying  on the simpliciTI source code files or somewhere else in my source code or using some commands?

Your help is badly needed.

Thank you in advance

Gebre

  • I just tested my cc430F5137 based board with the ez430 FET and was able to connect up to SmartRF Studio 7. Maybe your FET does not have the latest code on it. Also, the ez430FET uses the Spy-by-wire interface and not the full JTAG interface. You do have to manually detect the FET, it does not automatically detect.

     Hi Timothy Barr,

thank you for replying. I will try using the Spy-by-wire interface. But what do you mean when you say "You do have to manually detect the FET, it does not automatically detect."?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Gebre

Pleas ensure that you have the latest version of SmartRF Studio 7. When you have the CC430 connected through the MSP-FET430UIF you may in some cases need to press the refresh button for the connected devices in the main window ( see point 1. in the picture). It is also advisable to connect the CC430 to the debugger before you connect the debugger to the PC.

  • hi Martin,

Thank you so much for the answer. I pressed the refresh button and now my device is detected.

    Thank you!!

  • No problem. Good luck continuing forward.

  • Hi Martin,

Thanks for giving me the answer for my first question. Unfortunately, I faced one  other problem. when I double click on my device on the start up window to open the control pannel, I got an error saying "device_control_pannel.exe has stopped working". I tried a number of times but with no solution. here is the screenshot.

  • Hi Gebre

Are you using one of our evaluation boards or do you have your own PCB?

If you are using our evaluation board ensure that you do not have a conflict. If you have set jumper JP2 to INT and in addition have external power connected to the external power connector (CON12) you will get the same error in SmartRF Studio as you got. If so, either set JP2 to EXT or disconnect the external power supply form connector CON12.
