Does anyone know the reason why TI has different source trees for Simpliciti when using IAR vs CC?

In the download file found here

- IAR is up to version 1.2.0 updated in Nov 2011

- CC is at version 1.1.1 updated in 2009

I assume that running the latest version 1.2.0 is recommended but I would rather use CC as the development tool.

I also assume there is some fundamental reason for TI not to have ported the code to CC. I don't mind trying but don't want to waste my time if there is a fundamental reason not to.

we are planning to release unified package in the future, so no separated package between CCS and IAR anymore in the future. Beta version for this is planned to be released end of this year. we basically need time to clean-up the package and choosing the right platform to be directly supported in the package.

I don't have any update from TI on this but I can let you know that we ported over the IAR 1.2.0 version from to CCS5 and found not major obstacles. It was just a matter of changing over the compiler specific intrinsics used and the format of the cmd files.

I would share the code if I still had it.

That part of the project was cancelled and the port that I had was not saved.

As I mentioned before it is not that difficult to move. I would recommend building and testing in the free version of IAR and then follow the porting documentation that TI offers for code composer and setting up the project. From there it is a simple matter of changing some of the complier intrinsics for the IAR native to CCS.

I was comparing the R.1.2.0 sources with R.1.1.1 and there is not many changes, so as you said to bring the CCS version to R.1.2.0 should be OK. The challenge is the interface to CC13xxware. Looks like there will be no shortcuts...

The unsettling part is that TI is not indicating why the CC1310 launch was delayed and when is the realistic chip/modules ETA as well as what communication stacks and when will be available. This is not helpful, as I have selected the CC1310 for a new projects, due to its advertised features and my deadline is not moving..

- SimpliciTI will not be supported on CC13xx from TI
- We have 6LoWPAN/ Contiki support for CC1310, see e2e.ti.com/.../1610617
- Kits/ samples will be available from the web within a few days.
- The TRM for CC1310 could be found here: www.ti.com/.../swcu117c.pdf
- Software examples for IAR and CCS are available as part of the newest TI-RTOS release (www.ti.com/.../ti-rtos)

Hello TER,

Thank you for the update, hopefully I would be able to get the modules in couple of days....

I would like comment on the Contiki vs SimpliciTI support. We have created several building blocks - communication modules. All of them running our framework, based on TI-RTOS and developed in CCS (Ethernet, USB, WiFi, SPI, I2C, RS232, RS485,...) all source compatible. Our latest project brought us to need of implementing network of sensors on campus connected via a gateway to internet. I have reached first for ZigBee Mesh, but was disappointed that it is not available for CCS. Then I learned that CC1310 is coming and there is SimpliciTI stack - absolutely perfect solution for my sensor network. Now you are telling me that SimpliciTI is not going to be supported, because you have Contiki. This is again for us useless, as Contiki is a different O/S and IDE... I cannot understand why the ZigBee class products, while HW compatible, is purposely made SW incompatible with the rest of the communication processors families, especially when the Z-Stack port to CCS and SimpliciTI interfaced to CC1310 is not a big project. I will port the SimpliciTI to CC1310/CCS myself, but would be great to have the mothership backing, as I can see there are some issues not resolved yet.

A different option will be TI-MAC which will be TI-RTOS/ CSS based running a star network on CC1310. This will be available early Q2.

Yes, TIMAC only supports Star topology: point-to-point, one-to-many and data concentrator.

What's the reason for not continuing development of SimpliciTI? It supports repeater nodes and FHSS. Seems to be a good solution for certain problems.

I agree with you, I have seen a lot of similar frustrated posts on my search for SimpliciTI 1.2 for CCS, since I want to use CC1120. Please let me know if you had a successful port, and if you could share it. I am not very confident on my ability to port as I am more of a HW person.
