CC1200 Transmit Power

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1200

How does the CC1200 PA output power control works? Is it an ALC loop control?

In our production test, 100 units were tested so far. We recorded +/- 1.5 dB transmit power variation at room temperature, PA_CFG1=73, ~10 dBm. Is this normal? I cannot find any information in the data sheet and user guide about transmit power accuracy. I also find the output power step change (PA_CFG1) at 10 dBm level is not so constant.

If I need to have an transmit power accuracy of +/-0.5 dB for production unit. Does it mean I have to tune the PA_CFG1 for every CC1200?

  • The PA is a open loop system, eg it's no feedback from the output monitoring the output power.

For max output power the PA will be in compression and the output power will be more a function of supply voltage but for lower settings the output power will be a function of the gain in the output transistor. This gain will have a variation. The numbers you are measuring looks reasonable, if you need better output power control you need to do production test.
