Big Range - CC1110

I use a CC1110 (at 434MHz) and I want to build a metropolitan mesh and I want to get a range of 5 Km.

At this time, I build a board and I got a range of 1.2Km (without ranger extender), so, if I to use a ranger extender, I will get a range of 2.4Km, right?

As maximum ranger extenders between a AP and a ED is 1, how I will get a range of 5 Km?

End device can to wotk as range extender too?

Thanks.

  • The increase in range when using a range extender depends on the increase in link budget (improvement in sensitivity + output power). As a rule-of-thumb, for line-of-sight any 6 dB increase in the link budget improves range by a factor 2.

    6 dB: 2 x range

    12 dB: 4 x range

    18 dB: 8 x range.............

  • Hi,

Theoretically, the range can be doubled for every 6dB increase in the link budget in LOS (Line of sight) condition. That means you need to increase your link budget by around 15dB to get 5KMs based on the range (1.2KM) you got with CC1110.

The link budget consists of the parameters Tx Power, Rx Sensitivity ( Noise Fiure + Bandwidth + s/n),  Antenna gains and path loss.

    Thanks,
