Number of Channels Available in CC1120

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC1120

For an application deployed in a forest, I would like to have the highest range possible. I wouldn't mind sacrificing energy, bandwidth or speed for higher range.

Having said that, I am interested in a data rate of 1.2kbps. Optimised for these requirements, I would like to know how many max channels are possible under these circumstances for a cc1120, its RX filter BW and a potentially better modulation format.

Kindly help.

  • Noticed this one has not been answered. Sorry about this.

Lower RX filter BW will give you the longer range. Thus, to maximize range use the lowest RX filter BW that fits the transmitted signal BW and also accounts for crystal drift/inaccuracies.

2 things to improve sensitivity and hence range:
Set register LNA to 3. This will improve the sensitivity by approx 1 dB at a somewhat higher current consumption (sorry - don't recall the exact increase)
Enable the processing gain feature (DSSS PN Mode). This gives 4 chips per bit so it curt the data rate by 4. This is the 300 bps setting in Studio
