I am working on a design that would ideally use the CC1200, but it must go from 400-450 MHz. Is there any way that the CC1200 can be used lower in frequency than the 410 MHz specification?

If not, what is the best recommendation for a transceiver chip:

400-450MHz

Data rate up to 250kb/s

Power out +16dBm

FEC and AES128 support

No, CC1200 can only be used for the frequency range stated in the datasheet. One other option is to use CC1310, we will probably open up the frequency range some in a later version of the datasheet.

Okay, thank you for this, I will definitely take a look at this chip. When you say you may open up the frequency range, is there any chance that the upper limit on the 433 MHz band could be extended to 450MHz?

I got some extra data, it looks like one supported band will be from 360 MHz to 440 MHz and with a different divider it will be from 428 MHz to 530 MHz. These are preliminary giving an indication, the lab work is not finalized on this.

I think this looks like a path forward. Initially our work will be in the 400-402MHz range. Can I assume that the current chip will support this? In other words, if we buy some of the 860-930 MHz EVKs, would we be able to modify them to work in our range? Speaking of which, I don't see any impedance data for the chip, can we assume that will also be forthcoming at some point?

You should be able to do that. You will find a preliminary ref design for 433 MHz here: e2e.ti.com/.../472245

And yes, the plan is to include the optimal impedance for more bands when we have finalized the measurements.
